History of Kuldevi

In a report of respected Late Nagarmalji Goenka of Samvat 1997, Few information about Sri Satiji has been cited based on some available ancient texts. A few highlights of this report relevant for the Goenka family is briefly presented here.

Our Goenka family worships two Clan Goddess – Sri Beera Dadi & Sri Barji Dadi. In Fatehpur, there are separate ‘Mand’ for each. The ‘Mand’ of Sri Barji Dadi has two goddesses as it includes her elder Jayashti as part of the prayer. People come from far and wide to worship. In Fatehpur, Sri Beera Dadi is more ancient. It has been heard when our ancestors came from Bapuda village (near Hissar) to Fatehpur, the ‘Mand’ of Beera Dadi was set up. Unfortunately, there is no trace of this ‘Mand'.

Sri Barji Dadi, daughter of Sri Lalchandji Bajoira, became a Sati with pujya Nandramji, the grandson of pujya Goyandasji. Pujya Nandramji had married two times. He had four sons with the elder wife and another four sons with the younger wife (Sri Barji Dadi). Their names were –

  1. Premdasji,
  2. Ramdasji,
  3. Kunjdasji,
  4. Sukhlalji,
  5. Rajaramji,
  6. Maniramji,
  7. Biharidasji,
  8. Kishandasji.

With limited information available, it is believed that Sri Barji Dadi became Sati in Vikram Sanwat 1665.

Sri Barji Dadi was cremated in Fatehpur and subsequently a ‘Mand’ was made there. The ‘Mand’ of Beera Dadi is located south of the Chhatri of Pujya Goyandasji.

In front of the ‘Mand’ of Sri Barji Dadi, there is assembly area for Sri Thakurji. There are two more Chhatri here, but to whom it belongs, it is unknown. It has been heard that Sri Barji dadi told her sons to cremate her in between the Chhatri of pujya Goyandasji (Grandfather in law) and of pujya Radhodasji (Father in law).

The Goenka family worships with great devotion Sri Beera Dadi and Sri Barji Dadi. They are worshipped on all auspicious occasion in the Goenka family including birth & marriage. The ‘Jhalra’ dressed to the new-born has the name of Beera & Barji Dadi written on it. The ladies when they sing devotional songs, Beera & Barji Dadi is always remembered.

Sri Dadiji, Sri Thakurji and Sri Murli Manoharji is regularly prayed by the family.

In the evenings, lamps are lighted. Time to time occasions such as Janmashtmi, Sharad Purnima, Bhadav Mavas, Annakut, etc. are celebrated with lot of joy.
